These classes are my favorite of any I have taken in college between Cal Poly and CCSF. The forensics class could maybe talk more about retracing network intrusions or data stolen from a network. I look forward to advanced ethical hacking.

I really enjoyed your talk on password recovery at PacITPros yesterday. I hope you'll be doing more in the near future.

CNIT 120 Spring 2012 Wow, this instructor is not only enthusiastic and committed to his classes, but he hits you on so many levels so that you, too, will leave having gained some knowledge and mastery in one of the many IT security and forensics classes Sam teaches. Every CNIT 120 class was interactive, on topic, off topic (in an entertaining way), and involved printed material, a textbook, web pages and multimedia, along with an interactive iClicker sessions which get you to participate and try to remember what you just read or heard. Oh yes, there were guest speakers as well, working experts in the field that Sam brought in during class time as well as at other optional times. Awesome!

Professor Bowne treats his students like adults. You'll do well in his class if you work hard. If the material is new to you, you must ask questions and attend the lab or you may become overwhelmed. Bowne knows his subject well. He does seem to lack background on some deeper technical aspects, particularly cryptography, but security is a broad subject. Also, Bowne has taken vows to stand up for the system and be apolitical, but he makes snide remarks about anarchists which can be frustrating if you are one. However, the amount of paranoia requisite for security professionals almost demands this type of conservatism. In all, Bowne is an excellent teacher--one of the best! Read Bruce Schneider's crypto books. Take Bowne's class. Remember that anarchy simply means society without a leader and does not require violence or negation. It requires innovation. --CNIT120 student

Dear Sam, I was in your CNIT 123 class this semester and would like to personally thank you for all the help you have given me in learning the tools that ethical hackers use. I couldn't have pulled it off alone. Y

Cnit 124 my favorite Instructor is Sam Bowne I learned more than I thought I could

Clearly I need to get into your class next semester because all your students are hanging around the library and hacking computers! 3x in two days. Right there in the CCSF library!! Crashing my computer, removing my audio drivers and god only knows what else these Asians love doing. If you haven't heard, we have an internet security crisis in this country and instructors teaching "Hacking" as in CNIT 123 et al. just make other people's live more of a headache! To say nothing of the transparent drive to get more computer repair business to those shops in the Sunset.

WHAT A PAIN IN THE ASS!!! (to say nothing of the wallet) "Ethical Hacking" MY ASS.

I am Sam; I have tried but I am unable to contact the person complaining in the previous comment. I would like to investigate this and find out exactly what happened, but so far that has not been possible.

I'm in an Intro to Security class in Jacksonville, FL. I read your comments on a text at Amazon where you also provided a great link to your site. I greatly enjoy your PPTs but Chapter 6's is missing. On : http:samsclass.info120120_F12.shtml The PPT for Chapter 6 is actualy linked to Chapter 7 6. Understanding Malware and Social Engineering PPT -- Kind Regards, William

hello sir, I am not in your class but I am a programmer very interested in going into the field of cyber security and bassicly everything you teach. I was watching http:www.youtube.comwatch?v=1EAnjZqXK9E and I was wondering how you made the website server-status page on the localhost site you made. In addition, I was wondering if you could tell me how I would test some of the tools I have made to protect myself from stuff like DDoS attacks. I am running a mac Os X 10.6.7 please email me at earthlyminds@hushmail.com if you answer. Thank you!

I really enjoyed your class (CNIT 345)! The labs were very complementary to the topics discussed in the lectures and covered in the textbook. I very much appreciated you being available in the lab after the lectures and your willingness to share and teach. I also enjoyed the beginning of class when you discussed the new threats on the Internet. You make learning fun and challenging. I look forward to taking CNIT 120 in the Spring. One question, how do you keep all of that in your brains, you are like a walking-talking reference manual. I am impressed and I am not easily impressed. Thank you1

I took his CNIT 345 class during Fall 2012 semester. Sam is the best CNIT teacher you will find in CCSF. Here are some reasons why I say this: 1)He knows about the subject more than any other teacher does. 2)He is always helpful when it comes to answering questions. 3)He is never late. 4)He is extremely organized person. 5)He is more powerful than Google.

Privacy PC guys have made a detailed transcription of Mr. Bownes talk at DEFCON conference: Three generations of DoS attacks: http:privacy-pc.comarticlesgenerations-of-dos-attacks-some-history-and-links-to-jester-anonymous-and-lulzsec.html

CNIT 121, 123, 345 I have sent requests to find out about online scoring for the above classes. When will this happen? I have submitted dozens of projects and extra credit projects and would like to confirm all are being inputted correctly. Thanks for any assistance with this. ** Student Name Redacted**

Sam's classes teach the most eye-opening topics in computer security with an enormous amount of hands-on training available. Sam has taught these classes for 14 years, creating a sort of regional draw where many startups seek to hire interns from his classes.

Intro to Security. Sometimes you speak too fast. Your voice also is a bit low and it's hard to hear you from even the middle row. BUT you can ALWAYS see your passion! Which makes you the best professor of them all! 3
